This time of year is devoted to my high school seniors - congrats on making it 11+ years in the institution we like to call "school". You're approaching the finish line, so pace yourself and finish strong!

You might think that detention is a modern-day punishment, but it’s actually been around for centuries. In fact, the concept of detention can be traced back to ancient Roman and Greek civilizations. So, the next time you find yourself serving time in detention, just remember that you're carrying on a time-honored tradition.

Ever wondered why high school dances are referred to as “prom”? Well, the term “prom” is actually short for “promenade,” which was a formal introduction and the first public appearance of a couple in the 19th century. Who knew that prom had such a fancy origin?

And finally, the tradition of throwing graduation caps in the air actually dates back to the naval tradition of throwing hats after a successful mission. So, when you toss your cap at graduation, you’re symbolizing the completion of your academic journey as if you've conquered the high seas of education!
